001 (2).JPG Can anyone tell me where this was made, approx. age, or any other information? Thanks! It is about 11"in height and about 7 1/2" wide at the top.

Is it carved from wood or horn? Can you tell?
Is the handle added separately or carved from the same piece? A few more shots might help. The inside, the bottom and a shot that shows the handle details.

Not saying I recommend it but . . . isn't there an "old" test for differentiating between horn and other substances. I believe it involves a hot straight pin or the sharp end of a safety pin and determining if the tiny area pierced with the hot point of a pin produces a "burned hair" smell.

Wait to see if others have something to say about the "hot pin" test.;)

It's wood, by the look of the open cell grain.
It looks like Pacific Island work....maybe..
