I found this today at a thrift store - the writing at the bottom is German I think, and it shows a king (God?) coming out of a cloud with His army on the left & a king (a man) being thrown into a fire.
There's also a group of people standing in the foreground?
Does anyone know what this is?
    How old it is?
    Who the artist is?
Thanks in advance for any information.

Yes, German. Roughly 'The Descent of the King of all Kings from Heaven.' The dates I'm finding for the publisher are all mid-1800s. Given religious subject, can't imagine this a reproduction. You don't give size. Could it have come out of a bible?

Afraid a search for lithographs by Carl Bauman did not yield any joy.

Publisher is B.G. Kurtz'schen of Reutlingen.

I don't think it's a lithograph. Could be a hand colored wood engraving.

I don't read German, so rely on IM Translator. The text is largely made up with references to scripture passages & some descriptive bits:

Grosse Riederlage und Shlacht aller Rationen so wieder Jerusalem streiten.

Der Engel in der Sonne so den Bogeln rufet.

    Sturz des falschen Propheten.

Sturz des Drachen in den Ubgrund.

Great defeat and loss of all rations so fight Jerusalem again.

The angel in the sun so calls the bow.

    Fall of the False Prophet.

Fall of the kite into the underground.

Obviously something lost in the translation/transliteration.

Do you mean this particular print could be a wood engraving? Original is 'Litho v. Carl Bauman'.

Seems to be the Last Judgement, and the references are to Revelation chapter and verse.

Guess I'm wrong. Could be a combination of the two, i.e. a black and white wood engraving with lithographed colors.

Yes, subject seems to be the retaking of Jerusalem & establishing the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Love the conception of the fiery pit ready for the False Prophet.

I opened it & the edges are folded so it's actually approx. 17" x 14" - could it be from a book?
Also, the paper kind of looks like a manilla envelope paper but it is soft & almost like a down or fur feel - not obviously fur but soft like that? (Could it be vellum - does that have a soft feel?)
Is it consistent with it being from the 1800's?
I can feel the indenture around the print but on the back!- could I do that if it was from a book?
Sorry; just trying to figure out what it is & how old it is so I can sell it correctly.
    Thank you as always.

If it's folded, it's likely from an old German Bible. I can only find the publisher active in the 1830s, 1840s and 1850s. Apparently, he printed for the American market.

The references I'm finding to B.G Kurtz'schen start about 1840 and continue through 1869. Don't know how long after that.

It's unlikely that it's on parchment.

It might be intended as a stand-alone illustration. I don't see any fold in the photos.

Yes, folded for the framing, but not folded as it would be if it was originally from a book.
