    Hi All

I was visiting an Aunt and Uncle last weekend when my uncle showed me this item. I have no idea what it is and they have owned it for years, also with no idea what it is. I assume its made of Bronze, but its just strange that the door that opens to the small compartment inside is on the back. Any one that could shed some light would be much appreciated. It has a name on the side (well I assume its the makers name), but still I have no idea what it could be. Napoleoni (2).jpg Napoleoni (3).jpg Napoleoni (5).jpg Napoleoni (4).jpg

    Regards
    Dan

I seem to remember something like this holding small commemorative bottles of VSOP brandy - by Camus? back in the day.

I can tell you definitively that it dates after 1852 (and probably much later) by the use of Napoleon I. Napoleon II wasn't technically a Napoleon and never ruled so never used the title and Napoleon III wasn't given that title until 1852

I forgot to mention this appears to have been modeled after a portrait by Delaroche not from a bust.

Correction to the above: instead of VSOP I should have written Napoleon or XO cognac. That's what i get for trying to be intelligent at 4 a.m.................

  5. Tilze might want to check name Bronze?

With the opening in the back, maybe used as a paperweight?
