The one SIS found does look like yours. Yours may be a second as it has a black cross mark and as there’s no makers backstamp it might have been decided it wasn’t for sale, also is the black tarry stuff covering up a hole?

I wonder if it once held lobster tools, picks etc.

The black piece on bottom is an old stopper, it measures 7cm tall X 9.5cm diameter it is very old 1940s at the latest, lobster is under glaze and more of dull red, it is stoneware.

I thought it might help to see them side by side. I tried to get the detail visible. The basket/trap seems to have the same rope detail around the base and mid-points, lobster seems the same but the pottery seems to dip lower in the center of the OPs though hard to tell for sure from this angle.

What does yours look like from the top? Is it open like the other one? Does the interior have a clean hole in the bottom or does it look patched?

Does actually seem like a money bank, then, but I'm no expert. :)
I'd also like to see a view from the top.

I think that black stuff is the original stopper that has disintegrated due to age & possibly being stored somewhere hot.
