I just purchased this antique side / stand table and would like more info. on it. Style for sure and age? I am thinking Sheraton and earlier 1800's, but am not sure. Burl wood on the front? Made of walnut? There are tiny nail heads around the bottom underside of the table, as if something had been attached there at one time. Very old looking with the narrow hand cut dovetails in the drawers. Photo of front and bottom showing screw and tiny nails. table walnut drop leave front send.jpg table walnut drop leave screws bottom.jpg table walnut drop leave screws bottom.jpg Thank you for help on this.

It is a mahogany Pembroke table. Circa 1830. The mass of your example makes me think this is transitional to the Empire style.

    Agreed Sewing Table
    Mid to late 1800s.
I think the pulls may have been replaced.
There may have been a utility bag that was attached under the table.

Thank you for your replies and help on this table. I took one knob off carefully and the wood underneath is much darker, as if it has been on there for a very long time. Possible mark from an original smaller knob there but I cannot tell for sure. I do like these knobs, so will plan to keep them on the table I think.

What sort of knobs would have been on this table originally?

I just unscrewed both knobs to look carefully underneath. On the one where I could see some light scratching that made me think that perhaps another knob had been underneath I now think that it may have been caused by a rough spot on the back of the hand turned knobs. On the other knob I don't see any sign of previous knob. Perhaps a cabinet maker with a more experimental / artistic side ? What would you guess? table knob up close.jpg

I'd like to see a profile of this knob.

If I were replacing drawer pulls.....I'd want them to cover the darkened area of the previous ones.....

Profile doesn't look right for old original knobs. Probably old replacements.
