Hi all I have a small box here like sort of bronze or copper its like a dull gold in colour it seems very old with old fashioned hinges and locking mechanism, the box has lots of patterns on it and is lined with wood inside. Tried to upload a photo but it wont let me. Anyone have any ideas what and where it could have came from? Thanks

Any chance of a photo of the inside? Also the hinges?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Well, the experts will be along later, but...
To me, it has the look of boxes and such from India and Asia. I think it's laser-etched, so obviously not too old. I was told that these items were modeled after more antique things, so... if you have an oldie, that'd be cool! Good luck.
And as Messi said above, experts will want more pictures.

    Brass

    Made in India

A strong magnet will be slightly attracted to it

    Less than fifty years old

    Minimal value

Tried to enlarge your pic to have a closer look but it was so large that it locked up my browser and I had to back out. I can't tell if this is inlaid niello work or just tooled copper or brass. If it is niello work, it would be considered Cairo Ware. Either way, this is Middle Eastern in origin with archaic Arabic script as decoration. I doubt it is terribly old as the workmanship is average. Maybe mid 20th century or a bit later.

I'd agree with the Middle Eastern origin; that is Arabic script or a decorative version of it, which could be any number of countries.
My parents (and I) were in the Middle East and India in 1958-60, and the items we saw and brought back are a good reference point for things that may otherwise hard to recognize.
The wood lining is something I've seen on Middle East items also.
(There is an ebay thread about an Egyptian plaque that many think is rare and valuable. We saw dozens just like it in Cairo, as I mentioned on the thread....but I never waste my time trying to argue or prove stuff.
"Must be old, my parents got it 30 years ago." "Must be valuable, I've never seen anything like it.")
