This label is on the back of a hand colored unsigned photograph of Mt. Hood. I've been looking at fonts on the internet and I found a couple that looked close but I'm not confident using those for dating this. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure about the font itself, but the frame/label looks 1920's to me. From a quick google search, the company looks to have been incorporated in 1913.

Thanks Kronos. The fonts I was looking at made me think the teens or the 1920s so that was very helpful.

I found that information on the company and it looks like the company is still in business in a different location. I appreciate the help.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I found several directories and books in Google Books that show the address of this company differently by 1922. So the time frame can be narrowed to 1913-1921, I think.

I am a graphic designer and I can tell you, there are literally thousands and thousands of fonts out there. Trying to date the label from the font like that, basically a plain sans serif font, isn't going to get you anywhere. A very stylized font maybe, but not this. Don't drive yourself crazy :arghh:

Marie, I think since the date range is sort of narrowed down I would like to ask a different question. Is there anything about the graphic design of the label that might suggest a time period?

No, it's a classic shape with a classic repeat pattern, so I don't see anything that can pin the date down. I think more important is the name of the framing company and the fact that it doesn't have a 2 letter state code or zip code. The only thing it does tell me is it's old because it's browning and looks brittle at the top where it's cracked.

I think Kronos made a great observation combining both the look of the label and the frame
