The edge is called threaded glass.
You don't give the size, so they could be berry bowls or finger bowls.

I would guesstimate the age to 1880s -1900 or there abouts.
With the polished pontil, I would suspect European origin. Although there is a slight possibility for American, I would lean to Europe first.

i think they are finger bowls as they are about 5 1/2 inches across and about 2 1/2 inches deep. I have not been able to find this exact style in any of my glass books. They don't look or feel like British glass of this period. I'll have to look further a field.

open mouth insert foot- i have just seen very similar listed as English glass c 1890 which was a surprise. These bowls are incredibly fine and very light so i'll do a bit more checking to be sure.

Possibly Stevens & Williams, usually had an under plate with them.

Thanks cxgirl- they might be but i'll look thruogh my catologues and see if i can find them, Most of the steven and williams i've had have had the strawberry pontil, these are just a polished out pontil.

    Hi Susie,
What is a strawberry pontil? It is a term I am not aware of. Perhaps we call it something else on this side of the pond.

HI some Stevens and williams pieces have a moulded glass strawberry over the pontil- used as a signature 1880 ish. I have had a large trumpet shape vase in opalescent glass with this molded strawberry plus some small sundae dishes with the same. I sold these a while back- i'll see if i kept any photos so i can share this with you.

NO Greg, its an applied molded strawberry seen on some of the vases and bowls right over the pontil.
