    Hi All
I put this as part of another thread I started but it seems fit to start a new one to avoid confusion.
Recently I acquired a vintage color repro print of the Grimani Breviary illumination series (month of July) ..after I removed it from its nice vintage frame it has a text print at the back either in Portuguese or Spanish.
Apparently it is related to a Spanish politician, diplomat and writer during the spanish civil war (and afterwards) by the name Jose Antonio Gimenez Arnau. I am not sure whether the text was part of his writings..the theme appears to be the spanish civil war politics and entitled AGOSTO ..and the front of the paper is the July Grimani Brevieary color print. The color print is this one from wiki and I have attached the photo of the back text.Any ideas are appreciated about the nature of this print, Thanks!

I can tell you it's in Spanish. Agosto = August. And there are entries for some days of the week. A number of mentions of a person's (the writer?) diary.

thanks Bakersgma..it could also be Portuguese as agosto is also for portuguese..yeah some kind of diary or memoir involving a voluntary retreat of some kind in the Spanish conflict (by google translating the title)..but it is enigmatic ..lets see if someone shows up with more light

I realize that August is the same in both. But scanning over the rest of the page, I concluded Spanish.

    by José A. Giménez Arnau
Nationalist Spain and the London Committee
A memo from the Caudillo (i.e. Franco) about the Withdrawal of Volunteers

    thanks Antiquer and thanks Debora!
Why such spanish wartime material got printed at the back of a Grimani Breviary illumination repro print beats me..maybe for camouflage?

Are you sure it's not a leaf from a book? July = text + illustration, August = text + illustration.

Not at all..it is a single print on hard paper..and furthermore the Augusto propaganda text is at the back of the Grimani Brevieary color print entitled "month of july" which is framed.

A page from a book or portfolio would seem possible - Text regarding July would be on the left hand leaf with illustration on the right, text for August would be printed on the reverse of illustration of July while the text would be on the facing sheet.........i think.............

Are you saying... On one side of the paper the breviary is printed and on the other the Giménez Arnau piece? Then it's most likely a leaf from a book. What's the size.

Yes..that is the case ...a non titled color picture print in front and a text on the back and it was nicely framed and I only saw the text when I took it out...size is 37cm by 25cm..I don't think it is from a book.no such a sign on the paper which suggests it was taken out of a book.. It is a hard paper.thanks!

Yes, that's what I would imagine. The type of thing sold at a kiosco in a handsome card cover. Commemorative, perhaps on the 30th anniversary of the war. And suitable for framing.
