Help identifying the artist?

This is a watercolor I just bought at auction. It measures 15" x 22". I can't read the artist's signature. Thank you for any help.

 

In the U.S.? What part? Anything on the back? I see "____man."

There is no further identification anywhere on the painting. It was purchased in upstate New York.

 

Is the back covered in kraft paper? You might want to open it up and see if there's any information underneath. (The kraft paper can be replaced.) Likely a local subject by local painter.

it's been under that acid mat since the 80's..maybe 90's....

 

I'm also seeing Schleman. Could be something else, of course.
