It's not a painting; it's a print. And be very cautious. Miró is widely faked.

How can I tell if it is real?

Lots of information on the internet. But I'd start from the assumption that it was fake and work from there.

FWIW the Picasso Estate Collection sitting next to it is real.. nevertheless, "assuming it's fake" doesn't really help me in determine why it's or fake or why it's real. Thanks for limited guidance.

If your father is around, I would start by asking him the circumstances its purchase.

Just called my Dad. He said my grandmother, who is no longer with us, purchase it for her gallery either through a distributor or at auction sometime prior to 1978.

Is there other information I can look at on the print itself to provide information regarding its authenticity (or at least the name of the print).

There is a multi-volume catalogue raisonne of Miro graphics which will give info on titles, dimensions, and edition sizes for Miro prints. If it is real, it looks to have been cropped or cut down in that most Miro graphics have rather generous margins.

Yeah. I've been trying to find something like that online. Do you have a link to a catalogue I can thumb through on the internet.

I doubt you will find it online. It is something that museum or university libraries would have. You might be able to find one to consult near where you live.

One thing you can investigate is whether Miró ever worked in that rectangular format.

You see how the corners in "m" look to have more darker graphites? That is an indication that the signature is not from miro. His signature had a fluid motion to it. Yours has a look that someone paused in writing his signature which means that this is a copy. You can still get it checked out but value wise not as much as an original.

You can also verify if Miró signed an edition of LE LEZARD that numbered 100 in his lifetime. (I can't find any verification that he did.)

The one that I included from that auction site was the same print numbered 100 and signed
