Help identifying a handle/door knob

    I was walking in the North of England, when I came across this knob on a river bank. Does anyone know the origin (eg what it may have been attached to) and the time period of this? Thank you! 20220219_173139.jpg 20220219_173120.jpg

    Should be spring loaded to remain in the closed mode once the handle is released. One sided open such as used on a hatch or compartment door that you would open from one side only. If brass, it probably came off a boat. If the spring was broken it was probably tossed overboard.
