Does anyone have any details they can share about this lovely piece? Much appreciated.

I'd guess it is intended to represent a cello, or perhaps a viola da gamba; it has some features of each.
It is a very nice figure in any case.

A crozier mark was used by Dressel, Kister & Co. of Passau in Bavaria. Rontgen shows a mark much like this as 1907-22.

By George, I think you got it. I believe it is a Dressel, Kister & Co. Also, I have never heard of a viola da gamba so thank you for that input as well.

Viola da gamba refers to early instruments of the viol family; they preceded the modern violin family. More like 1500 than the time period your piece represents. They were less curvy than violins or cellos; generally played between the legs or upright on the lap; often had more than 4 strings, and were fretted rather than fretless.

I think your piece represents an cello, most likely.
