Help ID an old dagger

Hello, First time posting. While cleaning out my dad's home we found this dagger or letter opener. I've tried to look things up on the internet but can't find a match, The blade portion is 8" and the handle has leather and a small chain wrapping. There is an emblem on one side but I don't see any other markings. Everything seems worn out. There is just an emblem of two axes and looks like a spartan helment.

I'm curious about it and the history.

 

A bit..long for a letter opener. Might be a decorative piece and might be real for all I'd know.

 

while I think it's over the top for a letter opener....it may be a reproduction of an old world dagger design...

more research needed..
