Help ID a Cane Sofa

    Would think 1940s or so. No real identifiable style or precedence to it. Nice that the caning is intact.

    It's a beautiful piece and surprisingly very heavy ... I Just cant get a feel for its style... There's something just "wrong" with it.. Its like a traditional sofa went all "Tommy Bahama" perhaps when it was reupholstered? Worth taking the muslin off the bottom to see if there's makers marks on the frame?

    Is that press-in caning? If so, probably not as old as I thought.

    definitely looks like pre-woven cane panels, which would be more recent... Problem I've noticed with cane is that it tends to dry out and become brittle oven time, thus easily torn/damaged. My sis has a set of dining chairs with pre-woven backs that have become brittle and cannot find anyone willing to do the repairs around here. There are repair kits available online but it looks like quite the chore...

    Does this help any??? Can't blow it up much without it getting fuzzy.....Love the sofa though!!!!!
