Help I/D military pin

Hello everyone I have this military pin that I can't seem to figure out what it is not sure if it is American or from somewhere else if anyone can I/D this pin that would be great thanks everyone. Matt

 

I've seen some very similar that were Civil War... with similarly placed letters... let me see if I can find an example...

You got it right, Gila. Crossed swords is for a cavalry unit, number at the top for the larger organization, letter at the bottom for the "company."

Thank you lady's for your replies I thought it might be civil war related but wasn't quite sure now if I can find the company and unit I would be happy thanks again matt.
