One thinks it was painted somewhere in Bali, wonderful paints and colors. The other, which depicts Bambi, was drawn in pencil and signed in the period 1944. I would appreciate any information on the artists who painted them.

The first is from Bali. If you post an in-focus close-up photograph of the signature in the correct orientation, perhaps someone will be able to read the name of the artist for you. The second is a 1944 drawing of Walt Disney's character Bambi, the film about which was released in 1942. The artist E. Meier could be anyone and, from the older hand, very possibly a doting grandparent. It would be helpful to know in what part of the world you found these pieces. And, fyi, when posting artwork it's always helpful to include photographs of the back, including frames. Oh, and you only have one painting. The Bambi would more correctly be called a sketch. Here is the original that inspired it.

The Bali painting is stunningly attractive...for the colors as well as the detail...an' the overall impression is one of a serene, idyllic village in the jungle. I simply love it...Thanks!

Seems to read Yny Tawa Penestanan Bali. Yny is a boys name in Asia Tawa is a common surname in Bali, and Penestanan is a artist village since 1930s,in Bali. An artist with similar work is Nuyman Tawa Penestanan Bali. But can find no other work by a Yny Tawa artist.

The Balinese one is modern. There are countless painters who paint in this style, and knowing the artist doesn't always add value to the piece. Btw, Tawa is a nickname for someone who laughs a lot. Balinese names sometimes work like that. They are also dictated by caste and the 'number' you are in a family (first child, second etc).
It is a charming decorative painting, not by one of the big names.

I picked up the paintings at a flea market for $10. They said they were from Switzerland.
