I bought this small (not huge) wall clock today. How old is it?

I searched online and some forum suggested that A is the first half of the year and 21 is 1921. If that's true, it's upsetting. If it was c.1900 or even edwardian, it would be all good but 1921 is just depressing.

I really didn't need to do another dumb impulse buy. :(

    Can someone confirm this information?

I have never heard of a dating system for Junghans and I'd have said it was around 1900,, but the use of Wuttemberg instead of Germany might make it post WWI as some German manufacturers avoided 'Germany' as a place of origin for export material to Britain due to anti-German feeling.

Somehow the case looks older than 1920's (not only style-wise). It's quite Maybe I'm wrong but that's why I took the risk and bought it, assuming it was late victorian.

Could the case be old and movement newer?

The dial is celluloid or something. Doesn't seem like porcelain at all. I don't know if that effects the evaluation.

The dial is what is called Ivorine, a celluloid material that yellos with age.

The actual age is immmaterial, it is not something that a buyer would consider important for a clock of this type and period.

Except myself. I bought this in my afternoon tired "oh that looks nice and I want a clock" mindset without thinking rationally. Of course I can sell it but these are very difficult to sell: every flea market has 3 and this one had been sitting there, waiting to be bought for months. :dead:

Hi the information I have is. Between 1870 or a bit earlier and 1890. The logo was a 5 pointed star. Around 1890 it became an 8 pointed star. Around 1900 the 8 Point star also had a date. Your clock seems to have an 8 pointed star and no date. So could be between 1890 and 1900. Certainly I believe it’s late Victorian so love it. Spike

    5 points 1888 to 1890. 8 points afterwards.
Württemberg as a territory existed till 1952.
A21 is the type of clockwork for wallmounted clocks and existed rather long and in different versions.

I have six Jughans clocks - always understood the number with letter prefix to be the date (first half of 1921 in this case, a lower priced model). It's typical of clocks they made 1980s through 1920's. Not sure why one would think less of it due to being 1921 versus 1900, they'd be near identical clocks. If they had a good seller they would produce it for years.
