Sadly, my brother and I lost both our parents in 2018. Our mother collected, bought and sold antiques (English furniture, books, China and Silver) most of her life. We are trying to get a hand on 1) what we have 2) value and 3) how to divvy it up in an equitable fashion.

Does anyone have trustworthy resources in the North Alabama?

    Wow........sorry 4 your loss !!! ( bin there...done that..! )

You have quite the task ahead of you.
There is big money at the top end of all the items you've mentioned, but alas, there is also a wealth of those items for sale today.

    1. we can help with that...but it will take time .
    2. that depends on many factors.
    3. depending upon , how many of you.....whether a certain item reminds you of mom or dad....part of the equation may be for heirs to select a few of their most cherished items, but to be fair , no one wants to have sis pick a $7000 diamond pin, and brother to pick $40,000 Chinese vase.....leaving leaving other brother with a $ 500 sideboard !!!

Are there any good auction houses in Birmingham, Chattanooga, Memphis, or Atlanta, that you could give you an idea if there is anything worth them selling for you.
Yes...they take a kings ransom.....but are you going to spend 3 years selling the stuff yourself !!
The quick nickel.....vs....the slow dime !!

OH...& welcome to the site !!!!!

Welcome to the forum! Maybe it would be good for family tensions to have an 3rd party appraiser on hand to help fairly divide things up.

So sorry for your loss .A few pics would enable us to offer a better idea of what quality we are talking about. Plus,we like seeing stuff! It really all depends on what KIND of quality you have. Estate services can get pricey, and its a crapshoot on how much they really know about the things your offering. If your mother dealt then Im guessing she had some nice things .
