Switzerland ?

 

Hello, Donna! The mosaic earrings are Italian. Not the best quality and likely 1950s. The carved figures look like Punch and Judy and are likely European too (as not well known figures in the U.S.) Likely same era. Ducks likely same source and same era. But why Switzerland? Because two pair are carved wood? The North of Italy is famous for its wood carving. Likely all three pair are souvenirs from that country.

If they are Punch and Judy, they'll be British. The Continent does not get the concept.

 

We have them too, except here they're called Jan Klaassen and Katrijn. Last time I checked we were still on the Continent.
The German speaking world has Kasperle, similar thing. Also on the Continent.
Punch and Judy and their Continental friends are all based on the Italian Commedia dell'arte, so the origin is Continental.

I think the Punch and Judy earrings speak with a German accent, and answer to the names Kasperle and Gretel.

 

Ah, but does Kasperle murder Gretel? They look rather less dark than Mr Punch.

 

I have no idea what they get up to in Germany. Our Jan Klaassen is rather a violent character, but there is always the policeman, and the occasional crocodile.

 

Morning, yes you are absolutely right I should have been more thorough and I should leave out the deciphering of these things after some vino and late night. Sorry as I really appreciate everyone on here. I'll step it up for sure
