    Any thoughts on background? Decorative?

What is the main part made from? Tapa cloth? and what is the size? That would help identify it, as would a closeup photo, and a photo of the back.

I would think, just from what we know from this photo, that it's a dance head piece, possibly from Tahiti, where they use that basic shape, and the combination of feathers on a base of tapa or lauhala weaving. If there isn't any way to attach it so it can actually be worn, however, it would indicate it was made as a decorative item.

Thank youTaupou. It is roughly 12” tall and 17 1/2” wide. Unfortunately, the piece is nicely framed and matted, making further assessment challenging.
