Having a hard time throwing it out

I bought this out of a basement for $5.

The glass was SO dirty I could barely see the deer.

Cleaned the glass and the Chromeo lithograph is pretty damaged.

Its named, 'The Midnight Challenge ' and I believe it's about 120-130 years old.

I got some nice wavy bubble glass out of it so I'm not too upset.

.... but I just can not bring myself to throw something this old away.
    :stop:

I took it to the trash can, held it over the trash, set it on top of the can, took it off the can :sour:

Any suggestions on what can be done with it?

I think it is time to let go. Unfortunately, it doesn't work the way the TV commercials show. Time for the circular file.

Do you like it enough to keep it for yourself? If you do then first consider where you can/should hang it as a picture where you will enjoy it. I suggest up high and in a less-than-bright location. That suggestion arises because I am going to tell you how to "save" the photo for your own enjoyment with not too much work on your part.

Because it will be mostly for your enjoyment, where all the holes are you could use appropriately sized "bits" of paper to "fill in" the holes from the back. Because the photo is black, gray, and white you will need only those three colors (but perhaps a few shades of paper in either shiny or matte finishes depending on whether the photo is glossy or matte finish). Attach (glue? tape?) those bits of paper to the back of the photo in the appropriate place(s) to "fill in" the holes.

I'm prepared for all of the gales of laughter (and possible expressions of concern for my "thinking outside the frame") which will arise from my suggestion(s), but all responding would do well to remember that I said to "hang (or prop) it high" on a wall or shelf in a less-than-bright location. ;) :D

No gales of laughter here....................just admiration for your idea and confirmation that I was not a total fool when I did EXACTLY that with an old print that had sentimental value.......................

No gales of laughter here either, I repaired a lovely old wooden and thin celluloid covered vanity box by the same method. It had several pieces of celluloid missing so I found a couple of rolls of heavy shiny Christmas wrapping paper with designs of muted antiquey colours over it, cut them to size and glued them on, the result was terrific and the box resides on my dressing table in all it's splendor, :) Joy.

It's beyond restoration, but the paper/paint idea will make it hang-able without costing much. A dealer would bin it, but if you like it messing with it won't hurt its value in the slightest.
