Hello all (again!), I have found an interesting looking waterfall vanity that caught my eye. I don't know very much about it. I have been considering buying it, but I was unsure as to what sort of value it has. I'm better with making an offer on utilitarian pieces, but I am not as well versed with furniture.

Looks like someone gave it the MacKenzie-Childs treatment.

Has lost any value as an antique so really impossible to evaluate in those terms. May actually be more valuable to some people as a piece of art furniture. However, those people are fewer and farther between. I know I would have to paint this white and scuff it up to sell it in my shop ..... LOL!

Whimsical. Professionally done. No shame there.

Thank you everyone for your input. I know it's a bit...eccentric, but I found it reminiscent of a child's room and my daughter loves colors and patterns. That being said, I don't think that it's something I would pay handsomely for.

Absolutely love it! Sell it as folk art.

You've my blessing (if not terribly pricey.) 1980s furniture likely to be the next big thing (after the fad for teak has run its course) and -- if it would give your daughter pleasure -- why not?

Don't quite know what to say!!! I THINK I like it!!! Does look professionally done!!! Wonder if a professional Retired Clown had it done.....seriously!!!!! In a way, it's Beautiful!!!!! The clashing design and colors seem to go well together!!!!!

Y'know......it is over the top...but....in a kids room......it could just work.....and your daughter might just get a piece that stays with her for a long long time.....
If the price is right !!!

Hmmm...the owner said she's holding pretty firm at $400 for it. I can find a similar piece in my area at a much lower price that I could refinish in any fashion I wanted to, if at all. I don't know how it is other places, but in a rural area like where I live $400 seems a bit steep.

sure does...but....that puppy has got to be one of a kind in it's current form.

In a rural area that you speak of........in Trumps America.....I'd wave $325 cash in the owners face......& tell them if they want to make a sale ....this is what you can offer........
    or....
    go for something else alltogether....

    Good luck !

I agree. I'm on the fence, but you are right on making an offer that way. I have gotten much better deals by offering up what I'll pay cash money on the spot rather than giving someone time to mull it over. I'll keep everyone posted on if I go for it or make her an over the top piece on my own. Thank you all again for the input, it is always appreciated!

As I said, may be worth more as an art piece to some people. A lot of work went in to that but, on the secondary market, most are not willing to pay for the work that went in to making something. As you found, you can find similar unpainted for a lot less. The seller may end up getting someone to buy it for their $400.00 but it may take awhile. Really depends on how much you love it and how much your time is worth to you. It could be that something painted less elaborately in the colors you chose would work just as well or better.
