Happy Buddha Statuette

Hello to all of You.
Hope you all keeping despite those HEAT WAVES all around the world...
Here is this a small Wooden..Resine..Bone..??? Bouddha Statuette measuring 15/16 cm H for 6.5 cm....Golden painted..Or gold leaves...????
Not sure about age ,Provenance, authenticity.....; Maybe just a copy of old asian statue for tourists....
I don't have a clue ,but like it very much... Asking price is 100 eurs negotiable...????
Have been able to take those photos... But have forgoten to take from the bottom... I could have as well slightly crush the bottom to find out out the material made of..???
Unfortunately,have not been able to do those things... Owner quite tough person....
Would like to have your advices ,impressions and help regarding this piece.....
Am in Biarritz for few days holidadays...And wont be able to buy this piece before 10 days....If it desearves a good bargain buy!!!! Hopefully still for sale next month;..???

He is not a Buddha, but Budai. The Buddha was ascetic and lean.
Budai was an eccentric Chinese Chan Buddhist monk who enjoyed life. He is popular in East Asian countries that follow Chan Buddhism or derivatives of Chan, like Zen. This happy fellow looks Chinese to me.

A photo of the base would have been nice, but I have my doubts about him. He is charming, but I would pass.

Probably wood, lacquered and gilded. The wear pattern of the gilding doesn't look natural.

Yes, Biarritz is beautiful, but best enjoyed out of season. Are you staying with your father?

 

... Father...??? Dad is 88 y.old... In Pau appreciating Shade ,Calm and cool Atmosphere..... I still beleive Mr Budai is quite Ancient..???
