    Hi all,
Im not normally into beads so I'm no good at dating them (if even possible when they're as simple as these) But I was wondering if they might be Chinese, given the knotted string looks like silk. The amazonite beads are all different shapes and hand rounded.
the holes are neatly drilled though so I'm thinking perhaps mid 20th? Or bit later? What does anyone think?

I think it is Aventurine; these beads were common in the 1960-1980s. The knots are not typical Chinese, they are used to to prevent the beads/pearls from rubbing against each other.

The stone is aventurine, not amazonite:)

There are no "Chinese" knots, they are just (simple) knots. The knots are set between beads/pearls to prevent them from rubbing against each other. To the best of my knowledge, this is how it is done all over the world. Just because there knots does not mean a necklace is Chinese.

The thread used to tread beads/pearls very often contain silk, but again that is not typical Chinese.
Aventurin is a fairly common variety of quarz. It can be found all over the world, mainly Russia and India.

So to sum up, there is no indication that the necklace comes from China.

Ah, sorry, I thought you were saying the Chinese had a different way if tying their knots!
So by this did you mean that just because it has knots it doesn't mean it definitely came from China as knots are used all over the world?
Sorry for the questions but I like to be able to use any clues I can find to identify where jewellery has come from.
Then I trot to @Any jewellery and ask to borrow her phenomenal knowledge:hilarious:

    Yes!
The necklace is a standard, simple knotted Aventurine beads necklace. In my opinion it is impossible to say where it came from.
