Hand made Fish Creel?

Looks like a fish creel that's missing a lid. Although, I can't locate a place where it would have been connected. Looks handmade? Couldn't pass this up for $5.99 at a thrift store

Any idea on age?

It is a "stake and strand" construction, a method historically done with willow. In this case the stakes (the upright "warp") and the weaving on the base appear to be rattan. I cannot tell what type of bark has been used as the twined "weft/strands" on the sides. Based on the technique used, it might be European or North American, using imported rattan.

Not particularly well made - probably not a professional weaver. A quick, utilitarian container, or experiment by an aspiring crafter.

Some steps in basketmaking have been mechanized, mostly in processing/preparation of the materials used, but basket weaving still remains a handmade skill.
