Hand Carved Wooden Carousel Styled Rocking Horse

Not sure this is furniture, but no other forum seemed more appropriate. Wondering if anyone here has come across something like this before.

I purchased this large hand-carved rocking horse at an estate auction near Victoria, BC, Canada. It is a very detailed piece with legs in a carousel style pose. It stands roughly 85cm tall and 122cm across in length. I could not find any maker marks or artist signatures. Wish I knew more.

 

if I were a little girl....I would want that....
1 st impression..... it doesn't look like an Indonesian carving...

 

Feels like it is made of a heavy hardwood. Weighs quite a bit.

 

I can add that when I was selling out of a shop in Massachusetts (40+ years until owners sold the property), the owner offered them for sale. The ones he had were made in USA, I think in SC or NC. They were expensive.........they came in different sizes and styles. I think the style like yours sold for about $2,000....give or take. They were made of wood. Wholesale price wasn't cheap, so we only ever had about 4 on the floor. They didn't fly out of the shop.......everybody loved them, wanted one, but...............

They were replicas of the carousel horse.

I think I'll google carousel horses, and see if I can come up with the company that sold them to us. I'll link if I do.

 

I wish I could remember the name of the maker....just too many years ago now.....

The shop I was in for 40 years closed about 4 years ago..........I'm still in contact with the owners, but both are in Assisted Living.

I'm posting their FB link....if you scroll almost to the bottom, you will see one of the horses.

The shop had several dealers........the FB page is misleading in that it was mostly new items that were sold......not so, although Bob Sedler chose to sell repros too, and did very well doing so.
