Transportguru here, antique junkie, swap meet troll, estate sale worm. Mostly focusing on Mission / Arts & Crafts (furniture, pottery, copper, lighting, framed artwork), railroadiana, and "unique" Americana. I also have a thing for signage. Guess that doesn't narrow it down very much, does it?
Hi and WELCOME to Antiquers, Transportguru!!! Love your sideboard, but think I'll tag both @verybrad and @James Conrad, who both know more about it than I do!!!!
Greetings, Transportguru. From your ID I was expecting more car and truck focus. The stuff you listed is right up our alley!
Welcome. You said trains? I was raised by a rail nut, and to this day I still end up buying railroadiana for no good reason whatever.
I worked 47 years as a city planner, mostly in transportation. Spent 10 years as the head of transportation planning for the state of NJ. Yes, I know that sounds like an oxymoron. But the nation's transport issues tend to crop up there first and we did a TON of innovative things. And, of course, I could collect transport stuff for the office/museum.
Very nice looking piece! Yeah, i think that's right, it takes awhile sometimes for kids to catch on to the collecting bug.
Welcome to Antiquers, Transportguru. Love the sideboard. It is a bit like H1N1, highly contagious, and when it hits, it hits hard.
Welcome, Transportguru! Personally, I am not fond of Mission. That said, I LOVE that picture of the sideboard, the lamp, the picture, and the grasses. (??!!)
Was. Sadly, I sold it (for a lot of money) in a time of need a number of years ago. It came to me through a demolition, but fit nicely into my G&G studio designed home (alas, one of the lesser designs, but delightful nonetheless).
To tell the truth, it doesn't trip my trigger either but, i like the high quality woodworking by the better makers.
