Anyone tell me anything about this.

Its in a clearance I might be getting soon, it was in a bedroom.
These are the only photos available

It was described as a hall stand, but its not what I would describe as a hall stand in the UK.

It appears more ecclesiastical and probably from a church vestry, it might not be even British.

Maybe an antique wash stand with towel racks on the sides?
The ecclesiastical look could be due to the period, Gothic Revival can have that look.

Could be a wash stand or, maybe, a server. It is a Victorian hodge-podge of style. I see gothic, but also Eastlake and arts and crafts. Think this puts it late 19th century and an early transitional piece to the arts and crafts movement.

That is possible, they are not consistent with the more 'chunky' style of the rest.
But then again, the period is not known for having a 100% consistent style.

Handy for hanging dog towels in your hallway!

Thanks guys, they were insistent that it was a hall stand but it doesn't have the metal trays at the bottom to hold the brolly spikes and walking sticks.

Wider than a wash stand that I have normally seen but it fits in with what you say and especially Houseful's example.

I just hope I get the clearance now.

I like my washstands with a marble top and shelf or cubby to hold the bowl & pitcher......

but I know they were not all made that way...

OTOH today it makes a very good "drop stand", aka a table you put near a door to catch car keys, phone, the occasional grocery sack, etc.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I throw my 2 cents worth towards Wash Stand what with the towel racks on the sides, but what's @Ghopper1924 say??

I think everyone’s nailed it. A walnut washstand ca. 1890. Unusually wide, so maybe not for a single family household. Mostly Eastlake, though with an unusual arts and crafts mortise and tenon element and gothic revival trefoil finials.

Even in these depressed brown furniture times this should bring several hundred $ U.S., cleaned up. I would find the English equivalent of Howard’s Restore-a-Finish to even up the piece’s table top.

I'd leave the shading on the top......
it shows how the table got used.....and how well it was cared for , for it to still be in such great shape after all these years !!
    imho..

Same here. I'd give it a coat of paste wax and leave well enough alone.

This is wonderful. It looks a little like Reformed Gothic to me!
