at least I think it is is like a sand finish for the picture guess it's more touristy but welcome thoughts on age and origin

 

India origin. 70's-80's time frame. I have seen a lot of similar boxes being sold the same places as incense, etc years ago.

Although Gypsies are of Indian origin and their language, Romany (in various forms), is related to Sanskrit, an Indian box is not a Gypsy box.
There are still Gypsy communities in India, but their art is different from this.
