Hi! Can anyone tell me if there is a name for these small heavy stoneware bowls? [IMG]

    They measure about 3 1/2" diameter x 1 5/8" tall each.

    Thanks!

Could be, I was thinking some sort of sauce bowl. So, that would fit. Is there a name for such a vessel?

    Thanks!

Potted shrimps or similar. Too big for butter pats or melted butter. I've also seen these sold filled with pate.

They could be for anything you want them for.
I guess they came in different size, what the "8" stands for...
Smaller pots could contain salt intead of regular salt and pepper sets.

    Hi, Juli,
They look like ramekins to me.

Thanks all! OBB, "potted shrimp" must be a UK term! LOL! Quirkygirl, the size is about right. However, they are shallow inside....not as big as a ramekin would be. They are pretty solid stoneware. They are a good size inside for the clarified butter. Maybe pate, too. I just don't know what to call them! Off to find more interesting crap to sell!

    Thanks again!

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

A fancy restaurant downtown used to fill these with butter, smooth over the top , and keep them cold.....& that's the way they'd arrive at the table with the warm rolls.

I agree. Sounds yummy OBB. The warm rolls, too! LOL, must be lunchtime.

    Thanks!
