Hello. A sculpture that was brought in recently and I am not sure if it's material or ID. I deduce it to be green marble after some minor research.

Material: Green Marble (the prominent green patches with a mattified shine to it)
    Weight: 3kg
    Height: 24 cm
    Breadth: 14cm
    Width: 8 cm

Would appreciate if anyone can share any info on this. Thank you! IMG_7249.jpg IMG_7250.jpg IMG_7251.jpg IMG_7252.jpg IMG_7253.jpg

Welcome back, Yashini, how have you been? How is your art?

The figurine is Chinese, acid-treated jade, made in the Neolithic Hongshan style.
If you google Hongshan style jade you will find similar ones. They often have those 'alien' eyes.

In recent years there has been increased interest in the Hongshan culture, and the Chinese are eager to oblige the demand for the style. Hongshan style jades are often sold as authentic, but the authentic ones are extremely rare, and most are in museums. For most of us there are the replicas, and the jades inspired by the Hongshan style, like yours.
Some are acid-treated to create the impression of a genuine archaeological find. However, real Hongshan jades don't look like that. They are very smooth through wear.
The style is very attractive, I think. I have several replicas.

@Any Jewelry soo good to hear from you and glad you remembered!! I'm doing great and I just graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts last week. My art practice is great and am looking to practice it full time. How have you been?

Thank you for all the information, its been of great help! Speaking of Jade, I have been quite attracted to jade these days and I go crazy with anything Jade. Managed to collect a few Jade pieces of jewelry too. (god knows if they're authentic)

Its was really nice hearing from you!!

Wonderful, Yashini. Such good news that you can be a full-time artist soon. It is a good sign, because not many can. But you are very talented, and make original, elegant art.
Ah, another jade lover! Join the club, there are several of us on the forum. And as you see, jade comes in many guises.
We would love to see them, and can usually help with information.

Spots that look like this appear to have a coating flaking off, or is it just that the acid treatment weakens the surface?

    It does, and it flakes.

I'm about as far as you can get from a jade expert, but I like it too. And serpentine, and random dyed rock. and...you get the idea.
