This hammer hung on the sleigh that the family would take to church in the wintertime. After church, my great grandfather would sometimes have to use it to knock the ice off the horse's hooves, as the horses had been standing outside in the snow and ice. My great grandparents were also the last family in the church to still use horses for daily transportation, though probably for not very long. The iron hammer, including the iron handle, is about 9 inches long.
Cool! I wonder how fun it would be to ride in a one horse open sleigh as the song goes. I assume not very fun when it is icy.
They just used spiked horse shoes.https://www.google.com/search?q=hor...VBvlkKHb8YD_cQ_AUoAnoECAcQBA&biw=1421&bih=726
I moved to central Florida to get away from all that, among other reasons. This morning there is Frost on the roofs here! At least there is no snow...
