    Thank You

Either for a sweater or it is a "chained" pin for which there is a name and I can't think of it now, and that upsets me, but don't let it upset you because some one who knows what I have forgotten will come along and tell you and make me look the fool, and I am not getting hysterical, I am just .................okay, slightly hysterical................I'll crawl back in my cave now.......................

I would think t he chain on the OP's example would be a bit small, even for an infant?

Though some today refer to these types of pins as a Chatelaine, that is NOT the term I am thinking of....................

can you believe that with all the crap going on in my life right now, THIS has completely taken over my every thought process????????????

Re: A sweater clip - the only thing that rules that out for me is the fact that they are actual pins..........a sweater clip usually has actual clips for convenience.......but who knows??????

I know that in the fifties a female cousin had a pin the featured a woman walking a poodle - separate pieces with a chain between them - and she had a name for the style of pin and it eludes me still....but then again, today's breakfast is naught but a hazy figment so...................

They usually call them Chatelaines these days, whether you like it or not.

I agree with Mansons, not a sweater clip.

    A double pin with chains.

I'd like to smite the person who brought the misuse of the term into standard usage, but somehow I doubt it was you.

It's apparent in that it's becoming the norm to not know, nor care, what words actually mean.
I chalk it up to not reading books continuously from childhood.
I have fought sign codes because they refuse to know, nor care, what they've written actually means!
We all see constant misuse of words and punctuation.
Many children are not taught cursive writing.
Soon we will advance to the use of the X to sign documents and grunting. :p

    Hi Mansons,
I know that they have a name, they were very popular in the 50s. Now I am racking my brain to remember.

Right on with not sweater pin of the 1950s for they had clips and not pins so the sweater could be removed easily without having to bother with pins. I was there at that time and had my share of sweaters and associated pins and clips. Sometimes they were called sweater guards. Here are a couple of examples of sweater pins that had clips from the 1950s:

Interesting repurpose use of 1950s sweater clips by women living in retirement community and assisted living residences that my Mom was in from the 1980s to 2005 was to secure napkins around their necks. Most of the ladies had added longer chains to them while others used 2 of them clipping one end to a corner of the napkin and the other to their collar or blouse and using a 2nd attached to another corner of the napkin. The first time I saw Mom doing that I said "What a good idea! Where did you get the clips Mom?" She whispered to me that they were those old sweater clips, and that it saved them from having to reach down and pick up their napkins during a meal. Also by having a napkin covering up their front more, it kept food from soiling/dripping on their fronts. They all readily admitted it was an inevitable hazard at their age.
