Gold "Viking" Pin

My grandmother told me that this pin (about 2.5 inches long, the top piece about half an inch in diameter) belonged to my grandfather. It was among the things my maternal grandparents took with them when they left Russia in 1916.

As I prepare to pass this along as part of the collection to my niece and nephew, I’m wondering whether anyone can help me with the identification, so I can put some documentation into the notes I send along with the pieces.

There are various marks on both the front and back, which I think I was able to capture in some detail, that probably offer information about the background and origin of this pin to those who understand them.

Any suggestions as to other forums at which it would be appropriate to post this query would also be appreciated.

    Thank you!

It is based on a French rooster coin for 20 francs, @daveydempsey will probably know which one. The Viking is really a Gaul, a French Celt. Gallia is the Roman name for France.

The back, with the crowing cock & 'Gallia' looks like a French medal of some sort. Still looking it over, that's first observation.

Edit: Unsurprisingly, scooped by AJ.

Not enough letters for Vercingétorix, the famous Gallic leader.
    That must be it.:D

Sadly Vercingétorix lost his fight against the Romans. They put up a great fight though.

The seller calls Vercingétorix a Viking! I hope kyra doesn't see this, I won't tag her.:sorry:

Yes, thank you for your interest.

With the kind assistance of my wife, shining a flashlight on the piece, while I got as sharp a close-up as I could, I obtained this shot, which seems to confirm the name Becker. Nice call, @daveydempsey!

Is it possible to determine the likely material?

Most of the other are 18k gold.
    Its best if it tested.
Magnet first, then a gold test.

When you do the testing yourself, never put the testing acid directly on the metal, but use a testing stone.

FIX is the indicator of the metal. RL seller says, vaguely:

also came in French Fix, a gold filled material.

This is where we need kyratango, but if AJ says do not disturb...

That is ok, I guess. Whe she reads the thread, she knows I defended her country's national hero. (Refering to Astérix, of course.:playful:)
@kyratango , please help, we need you.

I am named after her, my middle name. It's that French connection again.
