    Hi everyone,
Need your help again. I found recently this brooch, I know it is rather new but cannot find anything alike and wonder what period or style it belongs to. Gold tone, kind of rough brutalist style, textured, with black agate?? stones scattered randomly. Will be grateful for any suggestion. Thank you for watching!

Hi IvaPan, you already answered your own question: brutalist/modernist style, I would say from the seventies. Is the stone black or more purple? if purple: amethyst, if black, agate, like you said.
    I love modernist/brutalist jewelry!
Do I see it correctly and is there a loop to use it as pendant? Thats a bonus because people would be able to use it in different ways.

Hi Dessert58, thank you for your help! The stones are black with misty (not milky) white, no purple hews (on the photo there are some, indeed, maybe because of the light).
Yes, it also has a loop to be worn as a pendant.
I also very much like modernist jewelry (also modernist paintings and literatuure) unfortunately don't often come across it and that's why I was happy to have this one.
    Thank you again!
@Dessert58 would love to see some of your modernist pieces!

Might be a bit earlier, it's more sixties to my eye. Might be onyx. Have you tested it?

Thank you, Ownedbybear! No, I haven't, found a place here to test but don't have time to go there and just pile up stones for testing. I also should test two beads of a necklace that cannot decide if they are glass or carnelian (or something else?), the other two beads of this necklace are coral (I posted it a while ago). But no rush anyway, I don't sell (at least for now) and it can wait. And I constantly wear this brooch so have no intention to sell it.
Will it make much difference if it is onyx or agate, except for the sake of precision? IMO, both agate and onyx are of the same price range. But maybe I am wrong.

    Nice brooch/pendant, Iva.
Probably the weight, I always find onyx heavy, but that could just be me.

Thank you, Any! I am no proper antiquer (I know you know it already :)), I just collect what I find appealing and/or unusual, and affordable. I am fond of German Expressionists and Russian Modernists, of course cannot afford to have either but modernist pieces appeal to me.
The brooch is rather heavy but it may be because of the metal. I will test the stones in due time.
B.t.w, the amber pendant I posted a while ago does not glow :( but anyway I like it.

I was thinking test the metal, not the stones? Might be gold.

Ah, no, I haven't either, I still have to buy testing acid. But when I get it, I will test everything that even remotely looks like gold or silver. Even if I find nothing, it will be a good exercise :joyful:
    Thanks for pointing it!

Your brooch has a similar feel to German Expressionism and Russian Modernism, so it is like having a symbol of their art anyway.:)
