Nothing like a last minute scramble as my daughter is adding more jewelry to the estate sale that begins at 10am this morning! She sent me pictures of a man's wedding band dated 1867 and also has a number - looks like 13 in a square along with the initials of client's mother's great grandfather. It did test at 14k and we originally thought perhaps the 13 was an 18 that had been worn down - it still could mean that and perhaps she didn't take a good scratch. We checked jewelry database and just did a random google search but didn't find anything. She did not have her ring sizer to check to see if the ring was a size 13 but that just doesn't seem to be how 19th century ring would be marked. Thank you for looking!

Could it still be 18ct in average as the purity is not consistent in all parts?

I agree, it could be either 13 or 18. Maybe she should test it again? If it tests as (13-)14 the second time, it is a 13 mark.

Also just noticed the engraving is over the resizing mark, unlike reinforced after as the spacing between numbers is fine

That looks like an 18ct mark to me.

Same here, but even if it's marked 18 it may test lower. American standards back when weren't all that strict.

    I’m thinking it’s actually British.

Might well be; American gold from that era often wasn't marked at all.

That mark is very much in our style.

Drop me a msg if it doesn’t sell. If this isn’t allowed feel free to delete mods. I can’t recall if it’s frowned on.
