Glass- Torte plate gold encrusted etching basket

Discussion in 'Pottery, Glass, and Porcelain' started by classiquejunque, Sep 6, 2014.

  1. Hi All,
Hope everyone is well!! Supposed to be some thunderstorms around here tonight, but haven't heard a peep yet.

Ok, on to tonight's glass quandry I have this 14" clear glass torte plate, with a gold encrusted etching. Initially I was thinking Portia by Cambridge but that's not right. So I'm leaning towards Cambridge or Paden City, cause they seem to be the two prime suspects based on the gold. Any thoughts?

I gotta ask, is this etched and gold filled, or is it just gold silkscreened on the glass?

  6. It is a filled etching, like the cambridge filled etchings.

All I know is a) it's pretty and b) don't try to sell it in Connecticut. We can't give glass away here.

Thanks, I wouldn't have been able to help in any case, just curious.

  9. Hi Evelyb30- Where in Ct are you? I'm in Middletown. I understand about glass locally, I sell on the 'Bay" for the most part. Some through local consignment. Bob

I'm in Bloomfield, call it half an hour north. I don't sell much of anything locally, except to a few friends. I tend not to make much/anything on those sales. Then again with the way Ebay is, breaking even isn't half bad.

  11. Yup. Grew up in West Hartford, My brother has a shop in Glast. Been doin ok with glass on the bay lately, got some good deals lately.

I think I've met him. I've bought a few things in a shop in Glastonbury. Old red house near the Route 2 entrance? I'm in West Hartford at least once a week, sometimes more.

  13. Cool, He's on Griswold st, it used to be in a tobacco barn, downsized a few years back.

That's it all right. We've run into each other elsewhere too, at one estate sale or another.

  15. I'm sure, We have probably met as well, we've been in the business forever. Grew up doing the West Hartford armory show. Actually walked to the armory carrying merch a few times.

Quite possible. I'll be hitting an accumulation/junk sale over off Farmington Ave tomorrow morning. Right across from the Armory, which is now medical offices.

No clue where that was. I haven't been in a Howard Johnson since I was a little kid. The sale was a total bust anyway.
