Was wondering if anyone might know who made this polar bear figurine. Measures 7" long, 5 1/2" tall and is 3 3/4" wide.

No signatures, just some wear to the base. I have found a couple that look similiar in the block shape of the ice berg and with the texture of the bear. One was listed as Kosta Boda and the other as Glasbruk. But I have not been able to find this exact piece.

Did you do a photoshop cut out of the silhouette or is it really that choppy?

Yes I did use a background burner, to get rid of the background.

I believe Glasbruk means glass manufacturer.

As in Sea Glasbruk, which was bought by Kosta Boda and which I believe is still labeled as Sea Glasbruk. Doing an image search of Sea Glasbruk polar bears brought up many similar, but I didn't see an exact match.

There is also Pukeburg Glasbruk, but I didn't see any bears similar to yours.
Skruff is another you might look at.

Thanks for all of the replies. I have been goin through searches of all the glass maker;s mentioned. Each one has provided something similiar but not an exact match. Guess I will just have to keep looking.

Here is the "ice bear" that we got in Reijmyre. The bear is 3D hollow molded into the back. You can see some similarity to the style of yours, but note the smoothness of the piece. The first photo is the front, then the top, then the back. There was a sticker that fell off and there is no signature on it, typical of these factories. 2015-04-09 11.00.18 (800x600).jpg 2015-04-09 11.00.25 (800x600).jpg 2015-04-09 11.00.34 (800x600).jpg

PS: I personally don't like the burn thing. I'd rather see the item without choppy edges.

RE: Polar Bears (in Scandinavia Ice Bears) - my husband is a 3rd generation Bowdoin graduate so we have a whole herd of polar bears in various materials.

Bev, I agree about the background burner, jst thought I would try it, but definitely not my favorite thing. As for the polar bear, I guess I will have to look somewhere besides the Scandinavian makers. As you note the quality is not what you would normally see from them.

I took some time and also could not find this. As you found, there are a ton of them out there to see but not this one :(

    Bev,

Yours is very similar to this one I got not too long ago by Mats Jonasson. It has a removable label but is also signed on the bottom. jonasson.jpg

Jonasson uses lead crystal, which this isn't.

This is my favorite polar bear item. It's a lamp. Don't know anything about it except that's it's made of stone.
