Glass cake stand - old or new?

I bought this at the auction Friday. I was torn between old or new, but I figured for $10.00 it was worth a risk.

It actually came with a 6" tall cover, but I don't know that it was original to the stand, but it does fit very well. I also have to do some repairing because the handle came completely off when I was drying it. It didn't break off, it simply let loose. It was covered in that sticky grime that we have all encountered. I doused it down with Greased Lightning & let it sit for a few minutes. When I was drying it I had a hold of the handle with one hand & was drying with the other. Luckily I managed to catch it before it hit the counter top & break into a zillion pieces.

It is 11 1/2" across handle edge to handle edge & is 10 3/8" across edge to edge. It is 5 11/16" to the side edge.

I have tried searching around on my own & I don't know if I am just using the wrong KW's or what but I am having no luck with this one. :arghh:

    Any thoughts on this one?

Hopefully tallcakes will have an opinion.

can you tell if the plate and pedestal are glued together? This is a somewhat unusual combination of a handled tray on a pedestal. The pedestal looks similar to one used by Westmoreland but the plate looks like a plain handled tray. Haven't seen that combination before.

There is the same type of plastic disc in between the plate & the pedestal that I found between the handle & the cover so I think you are correct that this is actually a marriage.

I have a friend who really liked it & will not care that it is not old. She just liked the way it looked. So I do believe it will be hers after tomorrow. ;)

    Thanks tallcakes!!!!

that explains the pedestal; several companies made a Sawtooth pattern stand that had this pedestal. I had to hunt down my Westmoreland stand and the pedestal matches. Not too surprised at a marriage, as I collect broken parts from unfortunate shipments and give them to a local repairer of glass, ceramics, etc. She has used salvaged pedestals in repurposed items for a new life.

have you looked at this with a black light? I'm guessing you'd get a different reaction from each piece.

I'll see if I can locate my black light as I have not seen it in the past few months. I am not really convinced I will ever be even close to being organized ever again.
