P1060085.jpg P1060086.jpg [/ATTACH] P1060087.jpg P1060088.jpg What possible chance do you reckon that this is the real item? It is one of two bought at auction in Australia maybe 20 years ago. The other was the prettier of the two but was in quite bad condition. Unfortunately I ruined it. These are chalk, or pastel, and my gentle wipe was not a good idea. So I only have this one. The portrait is about 19.5 x 15.5 inches and is in a simple frame. It is beautifully done, and the signature looks very like C.D. Gibson's to me, but no doubt he was widely copied. I've not found too many examples of his pastels and haven't found her, either, in Google searches ... Quite a bit of reflection in the photo, sorry.

It smudged so damned easily that that's as good as my signature gets. Thanks for your examples, which are a lot better than I found.

Looks pretty good to me. The quality of the work is good enough. You might want to have an auction house take a look. You will probably need to have some better pics to do so.
