I’ve hunted for another similar box but come up empty handed so any help with search terms would be useful please.
It needs some TLC and a repair to the leather hinge but otherwise in not too bad condition.
I’m wondering about the appropriate age? I’ve semi translated the German newspaper lining, it sounds a bit dodgy :hilarious:
Lise Fleuron was born in 1874 and died in 1960.
Unfortunately no labels or makers marks.
Slightly unusual in that the latch is on narrower end.
    20x17cm.
    12cm tall.
    Any thoughts please?
    Thankyou.

Well, the Lise Fleuron reference should give you directional dating. It appears she was at the height of her popularity at the turn of the 19th century so roughly Belle Epoque.

    That’s very helpful, Thankyou.

It does doesn’t it. My husband does leathercraft and he thinks the leather has been wet formed over the mould.I haven’t yet found another similar.

Thankyou. Hopefully it will with a bit of love!

I wonder if the way it opens is to sit on a dresser. I f the lid opened on the long end it would be positioned on the dresser that way which would take up more room. Does that make sense?
