I have a lot of texts from the 1800s and am just starting to comb through them. This one looks like a Protestant translation of the New Testament in German. Could use some help from those antiquers who know German. Thanks.

The first 3 images say it's an Introduction to the Old Testament by Carl H Cornill who was a professor of Theology at the University of Konigsburg. However there must be more sections or a contents list given the pages that follow them.

This is way beyond my basic Google translate skills. We do have members who have volunteered to be contacted for translations in specific languages. You'll have to scroll through this thread https://www.antiquers.com/threads/calling-all-translators.27668/ to find the German translators and then contact them via PM or tag them in a reply to this thread. Good luck!

It's a textbook, obviously. It's an overview of the Old Testament. Probably not worth much, even in Germany. The prof however was from Konigburg, aka Kaliningrad which became part of Russia. It was East Prussia at the time.

short and sweet - it's a workbook for students of theology with the intent to lead them through biblical texts by giving them hints with the texts - also where needed in refernce to Hebrew - with the final goal NOT to present the solution, but to teach them scientifical work.
the most interesting is the name of one of the editors - Ficker in Strassburg. a parent of Groucho ? :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

those books are of no value here in Europe; and I doubt they are in an English-speaking environment.

It is the kind of book a theology student would come across at an antiquariat and pay 2 euros for.:sorry:

Still is.:) The Prussians were an old Baltic nation before they were overrun by the Teutonic Knights. The other Prussia was named after this one, but its inhabitants are not Baltic.

The German name of the town is Königsberg (king's mountain) btw, not Königsburg (king's castle). The king was a Bohemian king who financed the Teutonic war against the Prussians (the Baltic ones ;))
In the case of Königsberg, mountain is rather an ambitious name.

The Prussians, lower left, on a map of Baltic tribes:

I would call it, or at least parts of it, a Bible concordance.
