Gentleman's hatbox dresser?

I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this piece? It belonged to my great grandparents. They purchased it used not long after they married. I am thinking it was originally made 1850-1890.

I think your date is a little too early. More like 1890 - 1920

Gentleman's dresser sounds correct but wait for Brad to pop in and confirm.

Clutteredcloset is right on. Sometimes called golden oak period furniture.

 

Is there anyway to find out what company made it, etc.?

Not without a label. There were hundreds of makers and it really doesn't matter who made it if not by one of the very top makers of the day. I can guarantee it is not by one of them. It is a bit unusual with the double boxes but not unheard of. You usually see just one in an asymmetrical arrangement.
