Featured Genie lamp?

Can anyone tell me what was it used for? I can't even guess.

I would guess it is exactly what it looks like...an oil lamp.

 

It seems just too simple an answer... but I guess it can't be anything else.

Sometimes a lamp is just a lamp...but then again...

 

It's a cigar lamp, a wick should be fed through the spout - intended be fueled with spirit (alcohol) rather than oil...

What is this fake pipe made of? It sure looks like a pipe.

And a sterling piece could actually be used as an oil dispenser. As long as you have a similar vinegar dispenser you have it made.

It is not a pipe, it is a Surrealist painting by René Magritte, called “La Trahison des Images”, the treachery of images, to illustrate that things are not always what they seem (discrepancy between image and text).
