    Hi Guys,

I'm an Australian with a passion for history. I recently acquired some antiques and was hoping to use this board to help identify some specifics about these items. I'm quite handy doing Internet research, but sometimes it's impossible (very frustrating) finding the details such as maker's marks.

Anyway, I hope to share some of my finds with you.

Welcome. I'll be very interested in seeing Aussie antiques. Are we allowed to say Aussie or is that terribly American Tourist?

What kinds of things do you need to identify?

Ummm, not sure Australia has too many interesting antiques. Just joking. Now, just gotta find Ned Kelly's armour! And you can absolutely say 'Aussie' because that's the kind of layed-back people we generally are (unless you read too much into our current political scene). I'll apologise now for making a reference to politics. Won't happen again. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie - Oi, Oi, Oi. Now that's just stupid and we've made that our sporting catch cry.

To be frightfully boring, my heritage is European and, therefore, much of what is coming into my possession are various European artifacts. For instance, I recently acquired an Anglo-Indian trinket box (sandalwood, ivory and silver) that is extremely well made and in very good condition. It has a maker's mark on it that I haven't been able to identify. But I'll save the details and photographs for a better post. Another thing is an ancient Egyptian statue (wooden) about 12-16 inches high. Apparently this was a gift from King Farouk around the 1930s to a relative.

I assume I would post the box and statue in the 'general' category?

Put them in the Antiques Discussion. General is usually for "chat" type threads.

The good thing for all of us is that with members in so many different countries and time zones, there is almost always someone online.

    Hi,
Welcome to the best board around. Hope you stick around and enjoy the fun. I am always looking to see what comes from Australia. I sold a lot of stuff to Aussies in 2000 and waiting to see if any of it shows up again:D.
