Sure looks like garnets from here. The setting looks promising for garnets, plus safety chain on the bracelet means nicer piece. Lovely.

I don't know if you can tell 100% if garnets from a photo but that would be my guess.

    Wait for others, too.

My first instinct is garnets too. Those are rose cut stones and most rhinestones are flat on top.

Check for gold/sterling marks OR makers marks. If there are none, that chances are we have a nice piece of costume using glass.

I had my Hungarian grandmothers set. Stupidly sold it years ago. I thought they were usually set in very low carat gold or a brass alloy. My set was definitely garnets and had no stamps as I remember. That bracelet looks garnet to me.

Lovely Bohemian garnet bangle, late 19th ish. Stones from Jablonec/Gablonz. These were almost never hallmarked when precious metals were used. Some are brass with a gold wash, some vermeil and some gold. In many ways, it doesn't matter what the metal used is, the ones in brass are still highly collectable.

    Agree.
It is Bohemian made ca 1880-1890s, using Bohemian garnets.
That is because they often used 'garnet gold', a specific Bohemian fineness for garnet jewellery with a content of .250 gold, 6 carat. It was also called 'Viertelgold' which means 'quarter gold'.
Garnet gold began to be used in Bohemia in the second half of the 19th century, and continued to be used until the early years of the 20th century.

The only way to be sure is have the stones tested,. Sorry, but if you are going to sell it you need to make sure :)

Any old pawn shop will have a diamond tester. If they register as glass, they're glass. Garnets are about a 7 on the Mohs scale, so a diamond tester would think they were synthetic diamonds of some sort. (silly diamond tester)

The bargain price is part of the appeal. We all love finding treasure for peanuts.
