Damaged and ugly and 10p from a car boot sale but from a little research, possibly a rarity. I find new (to me) materials fascinating. Galalith was a new term to me until I looked up Ebena. Made in Belgium, They made Bakelite too but this is not like any Bakelite I’ve seen. Only in production 1921 to early 30s. Very thick walls and heavy for its size. Chipped at the back and lost all it’s gilding so it’s a bit sad. Does anyone know anything about Galalith to be able to ID this box please?. Apparently made with milk casein and formaldehyde Thankyou
Could be valuable. Sold an Ebena box on ebay for over $300.00. Very early plastic sought by some collectors. However, it was in much better condition than this and more marbleized. That gold could be as it was made. Maybe put in to the mix and only rose to the surface in some places.
Thankyou. Yes, sadly not the greatest condition but as you say, maybe still of interest to collectors. Anything upwards of 10p is profit .
