Seems they made chairs all over the place but Wisc was the home base.

You need photos of the WHOLE piece to start the thread, then add closeups of various details.:p

So time to ask for help. The bottom of the seat is stabilized with metal braces. I put wood filler and sanded that.
I was going to use Citri strip next.

Maybe @Ghopper1924 or @verybrad can help me out?

Not sure you will be satisfied with the results doing this. The putty will not match well and is bound to crack. The metal braces might look better without the putty and will provide the stability you need. In actuality, this really should be glued and clamped for a proper repair.

Putty is not structural so might not do what you need it to do on the arm attachment.

You plan to use the citrus strip is fine. However, based on what I can see, I am not sure this needs to be completely stripped. Some clean-up and some Howard's might be sufficient. Uneven finishes can be evened out with lacquer finish before using the Howard's.

How could I removed the putty?

Well, I see you finally got round to posting your chair.:)

Yes, agree with Brad on this plus, if your plan is using any stain most wood putties do not stain well and will be very visible.
If the plan is to paint then you can leave the putty as is.

    Sand it off.
I would consider removing braces underneath and glue & clamp. Many times, just some 3/8"-1/2" nylon rope and a stick to put it under tension will work if you don't have clamps.

I have some ratcheting straps. What glue is good?

    That WORKS! @ ratcheting straps.
Any wood glue will work, Elmers is fine if you have some handy.
Just make sure the joint is well clean.

Lots of old glue. How can I soften the glue to remove it?

    I read vinegar.
    GooGone?

Do you have a scraper? Painters 5 in 1 tool? Sometimes heat (hairdryer/heat gun) works if the glue is really stuck on there.
Scraping usually works well if glue is hard & brittle

Another thing, I would dry fit with your rachet thingy before applying the new glue to make sure it will work.
