Furgotts? Mink Coat

Discussion in 'Textiles, Needle Arts, Clothing' started by Jax Moving and Storage, Apr 22, 2017.

  1. I am unsure if I spelled the name of the store correctly. I haven't found much information about the retailer online, other than the department store that sold these was only open for a brief period of time. Does anyone know about mink coats? Is there a market for them still? If so what would the suggested price be for something like this?

It looks an awful lot like my great aunt's "blonde mink jacket" which was inherited by my mother and later by a sister.

Might be sheared white beaver??? My sister had one back in the 1970's with a mink collar & it was truly one of the softest furs I have ever felt.

As to a market the answer is yes, but you need to check very carefully for any separation of the pelts. It is best to sell them late fall or early winter. If it does have damage you might not get as much but crafters do buy them to use.

I had a mink bunny made for a friend about 15 years ago. I put an antique lace collar around its neck & the collar is held together by a rhinestone bunny pin.:happy:

  7. That is exactly the same situation here my mother passed it down to me and she got it from her grandmother

  8. What exactly is sheer white beaver and how would I even know the difference can you educate me and checking the Pelts. I've had this coat in a protective cover hanging in my closet since I was 18 years old I live in Florida I don't need a mink coat so if there is a market for them you are saying to sell them around the winter time which makes a lot of sense but what would I list as the reserve price I don't know how much it's worth?

I agree with Komokwa, mink aren't a very big animal, the darker piece in the fur is usually on the back and goes down to the tail so.you could figure out how wide the animal was from that. These look too wide but I'm no fur expert.

Furchgotts was a big name dept store here in Jax for many years. High end and great quality. Before they closed I remember going there with mother and the elevator was run by an old gent in livery, and it had a little bench you could sit on. I thought it tres chic as a six year old.

I vote mink or fox. Beaver is more plush looking when sheared.
